Born in 1933 in Norfolk, Michael Woods worked as an illustrator, watercolourist, potter, teacher and writer. He studied at Norwich School of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art and illustrated magazines and a series of books on drawing. As well as group exhibitions he held solo shows in Godalming and Manchester. His works are held by the National Trust and the City of Norwich. This painting was acquired for the Paintings in Hospitals Collection in 1976.
